School Council and Green Ambassadors
The school council and Green Ambassadors at Abbotsweld are groups of students who are democratically elected to represent the views of all pupils and to improve our school. They write speeches to persuade voters and every pupil then votes for their favourite.
At Abbotsweld, our School Council strive to improve the school community by meeting regularly to discuss a range of different topics. Often, the pupil body will meet to arrange fundraisers and prospective events, which are subsequently added to the school calendar. Their primary focus is engaging the children at Abbotsweld in democratic processes, such as voting, and donating to chosen charities.
This year’s elected School Council members are:
The Green Ambassadors care deeply about the environmental impact that the school has, hoping to provide insight to the wider school community about how to make Abbotsweld 'greener'. Notably, recycling of paper has been encouraged and enforced across all classrooms in the school, which has dramatically reduced the paper wastage in the school. Further projects include distributing a plastic bottle to all children so that single-use plastics are a thing of the past.
